Jules releases her first Organic Wine:
ON THE QUIET PINOT NOIR 2021
JULES CELEBRATES ORGANIC WINE WEEK THIS YEAR
with the release of her first certified organic wine: The single vineyard “On The Quiet” (OTQ) Pinot Noir 2021
from the beautiful Wrekin Vineyard in Marlborough’s Fairhall Valley.
“We have been talking about organics for a long time, and it is fantastic to finally bring our first certified organic wine to market” says Jules. “It is great to have that symbol on the label and to be able to talk about it to consumers.”
Organic Grapes from the Wrekin Vineyard
The grapes for this wine come from the Wrekin vineyard in Marlborough’s Southern Valleys. A place that Jules loves. “The Wrekin is a beautiful place full of happy vines and happy people. We love the flavours in the grapes we get from that site, and we are proud to work with the Johns family and their team.
Jules has been making an OTQ Pinot Noir from this site since 2016 but this is the first vintage where the finished wine has certified under Biogro’s organic programme. Although Jules claims she has just been avoiding the paperwork, there has undoubtedly been growth in demand for and acceptance of organic wines during this time.
“When I first started making my own wine, I never even thought I’d be able to grow it into a business that would feed two skinny kids… now those kids are heading away to university, and I’m increasingly concerned about how we leave our stamp on the land for the next generation.”
What is “On The Quiet”?
Although Jules is well known for her successful and popular range of wines, her “On The Quiet” releases are single vineyard selections produced in tiny quantities. The idea came originally from a single barrel, hidden at the back of the cellar and kept ‘On The Quiet’ (hence the name) from husband George, however today they are a little better known and have evolved into a curated series of small batch wines made as a personal indulgence for Jules.
They are the ideal place for Jules to experiment with alternative winemaking approaches and are a natural home for her first foray into organics.
The OTQ bottle displays the flora and fauna often found in Marlborough’s organic vineyards: Phacelia, Buckwheat, Wild Fennel, plus bees and fantails are often found between the grapevines when they are managed in a gentler manner.

Taste it for yourself
The newly released OTQ Pinot Noir 2021 will be available for trade and consumers to taste at this week’s Down to Earth event in Auckland on Thursday 21st September, organised by Organic Winegrowers as part of Organic Wine Week.
Naomi Galvin, Marketing, Events and Admin Manager with Organic Winegrowers NZ comments: “With consumers continuing to make environmental choices and a huge upswing in demand for organic wine, Organic Winegrowers NZ is thrilled to see new wineries, like Jules Taylor, starting to produce organic wines and we warmly welcome them into the fold. We're excited to have their first organic release at Down to Earth.”
Jules agrees: “We are proud to stand beside such a widely admired group of winemakers and amongst such a delicious line-up of wines. And I can’t wait to see what everyone thinks of the OTQ Pinot 2021. We are really proud of it.”
