Jules Taylor Wines

Meadowbank Estate Chardonnay 2016

The OTQ Series is a pure expression of Jules’ winemaking skills and her vision to create wines which speak of their place.

Jules chose the grapes for this wine from a small block on the stunning Meadowbank Vineyard, which lies in the Taylor Pass sub-region of Marlborough. Growing at the base of the Wither Hills this vineyard is afforded protection from the wind and consequently has slightly elevated temperatures throughout the growing season. Golden bunches of Mendoza fruit were hand harvested from Meadowbank Estate, fermented with indigenous yeast and aged in French oak barrels. This Chardonnay exhibits wonderfully intense patisserie, butterscotch and apple flower tones, with brilliant acidis and great definitinon. Not one to be missed.

Winemakers notes

With a lucious golden hue, this Chardonnay summons patisserie accents with baked apples, vanilla and caramalised sugar aromas are complimented by hints of wet flint. Exhibiting indulging flavours of creme brulee; with butterscotch, vanilla and caramalised figs this wine will certainly have you coming back for more.

Vinification

The grapes for this Chardonnay were grown in the Meadowbank Estate Vineyard in the Taylor Pass subregion. This particular block, settled in this picturesque vineyard, was carefully hand managed to provide low-yield, high quality crop. In early March the fruit was hand picked. Jules took the fruit to the winery where she whole bunch pressed it to provide the juice with perfect clarity. It then underwent a warm wild fermentation in French oak, to give it some extra character. Following the wild fermentation Jules put the wine through a full malolactic fermentation in order to soften the acid profile and add additional layers of complexity. She then left the wine in oak where matured for 10 months. Just prior to the 2017 vintage, Jules stabilised the wine and then it was bottled.
